Baked Salmon Teriyaki

There’s nothing quite like the savory and sweet tang of a good teriyaki sauce, especially when it’s poured lovingly all over a great salmon fillet. Salmon has a mild flavor, with a nice meaty texture. It is a really great base for a lot of flavorful sauces, like the one we will be using today.

As I mentioned before this dinner comes together so quickly, in under 30 minutes! So if you’re drained after a long day of the hustle and bustle but still want something tasty, healthy, and satisfying to put on the table, this is the recipe for you.

What Is Teriyaki?

Did you know that teriyaki is actually a cooking method? It’s used in Japanese cooking and just involves cooking your food in a glaze typically made from soy sauce, some type of sugar, and mirin – also known as rice wine vinegar.

While the Japanese do typically pair teriyaki with seafood it’s not as commonly used this way, so consider this dish an Americanized homage to Japan and all its culinary contributions.

Ingredients In Baked Salmon Teriyaki

Detailed measurements and instructions can be found on the printable recipe card at the bottom of the page.

  • Salmon – One fillet cut into 4 equal pieces.
  • Teriyaki sauce – I used my own teriyaki sauce recipe today, which let me just say is the bomb. I’ve included a link here for those who’d like to follow suit.
  • Onion – We want a nice mild, fresh flavor to our salmon today and green onion achieves that! Other onions may be too over bearing in this dish.
  • Sesame seeds – Believe me these little seeds will add a great toasty, nutty finish to our dish. I love to use toasted sesame seeds but feel free to use raw.

How To Make Baked Salmon Teriyaki

  • Preheat your oven: To 400 F degrees, Spray a 9 X 13 inch pan with cooking spray and place your salmon in. Pour 1/2 cup of the teriyaki sauce over it. Cover with aluminum foil.
  • Bake the salmon: For 15 minutes or until the salmon is opaque in the center. For the last 5 minutes remove the aluminum foil to brown the tops. Remove from the oven.
  • Finish the dish: Brush the top of the salmon with the remaining 1/4 cup of sauce then garnish with green onions and sesame seeds. Serve over rice and enjoy!

How Do I Make Homemade Teriyaki Sauce?

It’s so easy and the taste is incredible! Ready in only 10 minutes this easy recipe is right here on the blog: homemade teriyaki sauce.

How To Serve Baked Salmon Teriyaki

This dish goes so well with many side dishes. I love serving teriyaki salmon with rice and a green salad, especially with arugula.

Other perfect options for salmon are steamed or sautéed veggies:

  • Asparagus
  • Broccoli
  • Carrots
  • Zucchini
  • Bok choy
  • Cabbage

If you’d like to go the extra mile and put together one of my drool worthy side dishes, here are some recommendations for achieving just that:

  • Mashed Potatoes
  • Mushroom Arugula Warm Salad
  • Garlic Parmesan Roasted Brussels Sprouts
  • Creamy Cucumber Salad
  • Greek Salad

How To Store Leftover Baked Salmon

Salmon doesn’t have a very long shelf life, so be sure to eat it quickly. In the fridge it will keep for up to 2 days stored in an airtight container. The teriyaki sauce will keep for up to 1 week stored in its own airtight container in the fridge.

Freezer

In the freezer this dish will last from 3 – 4 months in an airtight container. Allow to thaw in its container overnight in the fridge.
