Sometimes the simple recipes are the ones you make the most, and you know I’m all about easy, quick and delicious. That’s why I love these chicken bites! Made entirely in one skillet, this recipe takes just 15 minutes from start to finish and requires a simple list of ingredients you’ll most likely already have in your kitchen! Winner winner, chicken dinner.

Ingredient Notes

ingredients needed to make garlic butter chicken bites.

Chicken Bites

  • Chicken – I used boneless, skinless, chicken breasts, cut into bite size pieces. You can use different cuts of chicken for this recipe, see “FAQs & Expert Tips” for more info.
  • Seasoning – Italian seasoning, onion powder, salt & pepper.
  • Red Pepper Flakes – This is to add a little spice to the dish, use as much or as little as you prefer! You can also leave them out completely.
  • Butter – I used unsalted to control the sodium.

Sauce

  • Butter – I used unsalted as mentioned above.
  • Garlic – Fresh is best! Minced.
  • Chicken Broth – I prefer to use a low sodium chicken broth to deglaze the pan and to develop flavor in the sauce. A great substitute for this would be a good white wine.
  • Lemon Juice – I used freshly squeezed. Use what you have.
  • Hot Sauce – Use your favorite, or make your own with my homemade hot sauce recipe!

Garnish

  • Parsley – We eat with our eyes first! I love using fresh chopped parsley to add a bit of bright color to the dish.

How To Make Garlic Butter Chicken Bites

detailed process shots showing how to make garlic butter chicken bites.
  1. Cook Chicken: Melt the ¼ cup of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chicken and season with the Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, onion powder and red pepper flakes. Toss well to make sure each chicken bite is fully seasoned. Cook on all sides until no longer pink and starts to brown, about 5 minutes. Transfer the chicken to a plate.
  2. Deglaze Pan: In the same skillet melt the remaining 2 tbsp of butter over medium-low heat. Add the garlic and cook until aromatic, around 30 seconds. Deglaze the skillet with the chicken broth, scraping all the brown bits from the bottom of the skillet. Stir in the lemon juice, hot sauce and cook for another 30 seconds. Remove from heat.
  3. Finish & Serve: Add the chicken bites back to the skillet and toss well with the sauce, making sure the chicken is fully coated in sauce. Garnish with parsley and serve.

FAQs & Expert Tips

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Use Other Cuts Of Chicken?

Absolutely you can! Chicken thighs, even the wings would be great for this recipe. Keep in mind though, the cook times will vary for each cut! You can also make a beef version of this recipe! Check out my garlic butter steak bites.

How Do I Know When My Chicken Is Done?

The most foolproof way to know when chicken is done cooking is with an instant meat thermometer. It should read between 165-175ºF when finished.

How To Serve

These chicken bites can be served any which way you choose! I love to serve them with a side of rice or mashed potatoes and vegetables, but you don’t have to stop there – the list is endless! They can be used as an appetizer, in pasta, salad, sandwiches, you name it!

Tips

  1. Don’t overcook the garlic! Garlic doesn’t need to cook for a long time. I’m talking 30 seconds to a minute tops! Burnt garlic tastes bitter and it will definitely throw off the flavor outcome of your dish!
  2. If there are certain seasonings that are going to make or break your taste buds feel free to switch it up! For example if the red pepper flakes are going to be too much for your palate, using rosemary or thyme is a great alternative; keeping it more on the mild side, while still adding delicious flavor!
  3. I recommend deglazing the pan in chicken broth or white wine because it amplifies this dish that much more.

Storing Leftover Chicken Bites

Leftover garlic butter chicken bites will last in the fridge for 3 days when stored in an airtight container.

Freezing

To extend the shelf life of your chicken bites, I recommend freezing them! Transfer the chicken to an airtight container and place in the freezer. Properly stored, it will last 4-6 months frozen.
