Easy Baked Salmon With Mustard Glaze Recipe

What’s your favorite way to enjoy salmon? If you’re thinking to yourself at my favorite restaurant, I’m going to change your mind! Because cooking salmon with a simple glaze is one of the fastest and most delicious ways to prepare it. If you’ve tried my Baked Salmon Teriyaki then you probably already know about easy salmon recipes! But if you haven’t you’re going to love how simple this baked salmon with mustard glaze is!

First off, it’s made with under 10 ingredients! And that includes the tasty glaze! Talk about an easy peasy recipe. All you have to do is brush some salmon filets with a simple mixture of Dijon mustard, honey, and soy sauce and then pop them in the oven to bake. Then about 15 minutes later dinner is served!

I like to serve this dish with my Instant Pot Rice and some Roasted Asparagus for a yummy dinner! But it’s also amazing with a fresh Kale Salad!

Why You’ll Love This Salmon With Mustard Glaze

  • Quick and Easy! This amazing foolproof baked salmon recipe is perfect for beginners in the kitchen. It’s made with less than 10 ingredients and comes together in just 20 minutes!
  • Honey Mustard Salmon! You get the most delicious sweet and savory fish dish when you bake fresh salmon filets with a mixture of Dijon mustard, honey, and soy sauce.
  • Versatile Dish! Aside from being super tasty, this salmon can be served for a family meal or at your next dinner party. It’s easy enough for a weeknight and elegant enough to impress.

Ingredients You’ll Need

ingredients needed to make baked salmon with mustard glaze.
  • Salmon – You can use fresh or frozen salmon filets.
  • Seasonings – Salt and black pepper are needed to season the fish.
  • Dijon Mustard – It has a bit of white wine in it, which blends perfectly with the honey to add depth to the glaze.
  • Honey – Adds the perfect layer of sweetness that balances the mustard and soy sauce. You can also use agave or maple syrup if you prefer.
  • Soy Sauce (Low Sodium) – I always use a low-sodium soy sauce to control the amount of added salt. But regular soy sauce or gluten-free tamari can work.
  • Olive Oil – I like to use extra-virgin olive oil for the flavor, but any type of vegetable oil can be used.
  • Lemon – Fresh lemon wedges are needed for serving.

How To Make Baked Salmon With Mustard Glaze

This 3-step recipe teaches you how easy it is to turn simple salmon filets into a tasty dinner in less than 30 minutes just by adding a simple glaze!

Preheat the Oven And Prep The Pan

To begin, you need to preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) so that it’s ready once the salmon is prepped! You can’t bake fish properly in a cold oven. Then line a rimmed sheet pan with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

Season The Fish

If you are using frozen salmon it should be completely defrosted before you do this step. Then sprinkle all the filets with salt and black pepper. Now, put the seasoned filets on the prepared baking sheet.

Make The Glaze

Next, make the glaze by whisking the Dijon mustard, honey, soy sauce, and olive oil together in a small bowl. Then use a pastry brush to brush the mustard sauce over the top of the salmon filets. Try to put about the same amount of glaze on all the filets. This will help with even cooking.

Bake The Salmon And Serve

Time to bake! Transfer the salmon filets to the oven and bake them for about 12 to 15 minutes or until the flesh of the fish flakes easily with a fork. When the fish is ready, serve the baked salmon with mustard glaze with the lemon wedges and garnished with some fresh chopped parsley if you like.

Is It Better To Cook Salmon Covered Or Uncovered?

It all depends on the recipe. In this case, you don’t want to cover the salmon. Instead, you want the honey-mustard glaze to reduce a bit in the oven. When things are covered it locks in moisture and steams them. For example, when you cook salmon on the grill, some recipes will have you wrap the fish in aluminum foil.

How Do You Know When Salmon Is Done Cooking?

When salmon is done it will look slightly pinkish on the outside and be translucent pink on the inside. The flesh will also easily flake with a fork. And if you see a little white substance on your salmon don’t worry it’s just a type of protein that has solidified as the fish cooked in the oven. It’s totally harmless and doesn’t change the taste at all. However, you can scrape it right off if you like.

Expert Tips

  1. Line the baking sheet. You must line the baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Even if you spray the sheet pan with cooking spray the fish will likely stick.
  2. Handle with care. Salmon filets are delicate and the flesh breaks easily, so be careful when handling them and brushing them with the glaze mixture.
  3. The oven must be hot. Food doesn’t cook evenly when it’s put into an oven that is still preheating. This is why you need to wait until your oven is done preheating before baking.

Storage

You can store leftover baked salmon in an airtight container in the refrigerator for about 2 days or in the freezer for up to 2 months. To reheat, just put the filets in the microwave for about 3 minutes on medium power or in the oven at 350°F (176°C) for about 10 minutes. Yet, if the fish is frozen you should let it thaw out overnight in the fridge before reheating.
