Easy Sheet Pan Garlic Butter Shrimp

When most of us think of shrimp cooked with garlic we think of dishes like my yummy Garlic Butter Shrimp or classic Shrimp Scampi, which are both amazing! Yet, both are cooked in a skillet. But there are multiple ways to make delicious shrimp cooked in garlic butter. This recipe is going to teach you how to do it in the oven and the results are going to tantalize your taste buds. 

This sheet pan garlic butter shrimp recipe is a total game changer. Why?!? Of course, it’s partially about the perfectly crafted recipe that includes a tasty combination of shrimp, butter, and fresh lemon along with a dash of red pepper flakes and parsley. Yet, in this case, it’s also all about the cooking process and the high heat that is used. Ovens in general promote even cooking due to the consistent temperature, but when shrimp is cooked in the oven at a high temperature it also helps to lock in their juices, make them tender, and keep them from getting chewy. 

Not to mention, this recipe is a wonderful low-carb and keto-friendly main dish! In fact, this is one of my favorite ways to prepare shrimp because of this reason and how tasty it is!

  • Garlicky Good Shrimp! With loads of garlic and just the right combination of lemon and spices, the shrimp are cooked at a high heat to lock in all the flavor and juices. 
  • Crowd Pleaser! The whole family will fall in love with this dish that can accompany pasta, rice, or top a salad! And it’s fantastic hot or cold, which makes it perfect for parties as an appetizer too.

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Shrimp –  You need large shrimp that have been peeled and deveined, but feel free to use any type of shrimp.
  • Butter – Always use unsalted butter in cooking to control the level of salt. This is really important in this recipe as shrimp can be naturally salty. 
  • Garlic – For the best flavor, always use freshly minced garlic over jarred.
  • Red Pepper Flakes – Used to add a touch of spice, but this ingredient can be omitted if you prefer.
  • Sweet Paprika – Adds another layer of flavor that highlights the shrimp.
  • Parsley – Gives the shrimp a lovely fresh herb flavor. 
  • Seasoning – Salt and black pepper are used to season the shrimp and bring out all the flavors.
  • Lemon – Lemon juice is drizzled over the shrimp to finish and the dish is served with fresh lemon wedges as well.

How To Make Sheet Pan Garlic Butter Shrimp

I cannot say enough good things about this recipe! You literally toss the shrimp in a garlic butter sauce, bake, and serve! This is one of the best and easiest garlic butter shrimp recipes out there!

Preheat The Oven And Prep The Pan

To begin, you need to preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C) so that it is hot and ready to go! Then spray a rimmed sheet pan with nonstick cooking spray. You can also grease it with vegetable oil if you prefer.

Season The Shrimp

For the best results, if you are using frozen shrimp they should be defrosted before you do this step. Then add the peeled and deveined raw shrimp, melted butter, minced garlic, red pepper flakes, sweet paprika, parsley, salt, and black pepper to a medium bowl. Now, toss everything together until well combined and the shrimp are fully coated.

Bake The Shrimp

Your prep is done! Time to cook some delicious shrimp! Place the seasoned raw shrimp in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet along with all the garlic butter. Make sure not to crowd the pan so that they can evenly cook. Now, transfer the pan to the preheated oven and bake the shrimp for 8 to 10 minutes or until done. And if you’d like, you can make them crispy on top by turning the broiler on for the last 2 minutes of cooking.

Finish And Serve

After the sheet pan garlic butter shrimp are finished cooking, drizzle them with freshly squeezed lemon juice to add a bit more acid and complete the dish. Then serve them with some fresh lemon wedges and another sprinkle of fresh parsley if you’d like.

How To Tell When Shrimp Is Done Cooking

To begin, the shrimp will go from an opaque translucent grayish color to a pinkish-red color. It will also form a C shape and maintain that shape. But one of the best ways to know if shrimp is fully cooked is to simply check the internal temperature with a cooking thermometer. Shrimp are considered safe to eat at 120°F (49°C). Of course, they can be cooked longer. However, for the best texture, I don’t recommend letting them cook beyond 145°F (62°C).

Can I Use Other Seasonings?

Yes! You can flavor the raw shrimp with anything you’d like! Add Italian seasoning, cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, or any other spice that suits your fancy. You can also finish them off with more fresh herbs like basil, dill, or cilantro. Another idea is to replace the lemon juice with lime juice. This sheet pan garlic butter shrimp recipe is really flexible.

Expert Tips

  1. Use a large rimmed sheet pan. Your sheet pan must be large enough to fit all the shrimp in a single layer and have a rim that is about 1 inch deep. This is to ensure that the shrimp cook evenly and the melted butter sauce does not overflow the pan. 
  2. Defrost with cool water. I recommend fresh shrimp, but if you opt for frozen, never use warm water to defrost frozen shrimp. It’s a food safety no-no. You either need to give the shrimp time to thaw out overnight in the fridge or place them under running cold water. 
  3. Crisp up the shrimp. To give the shrimp a bit of a crispy finish, turn the broiler on for the last 2 minutes of cooking. But do watch them closely as shrimp tend to cook very quickly.

Storage

Sheet pan garlic butter shrimp is always best eaten immediately after it’s made. However, leftovers will keep in the refrigerator for up to 2 days in an airtight container. To reheat, just put the shrimp in the microwave on low for just a few minutes or in the oven. They are also wonderful cold!

Ingredients

  • 1½ pounds large shrimp peeled and deveined
  • ½ cup butter unsalted, melted
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon sweet paprika
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley chopped
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • lemon wedges

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F. Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray.
  • In a medium size bowl combine the melted butter, garlic, red pepper flakes, paprika, parsley, salt and pepper. Toss well.
  • Place the shrimp with all the garlic butter on the prepared baking sheet and arrange in a single layer.
  • Transfer the baking sheet to the oven and bake for 8 to 10 minutes. You can turn on the broiler for the last 2 minutes to get them a little crisp on top.
  • Drizzle lemon juice over shrimp and serve with lemon wedges or slices.
